Module.2:Get to Know Yourself(5/31 Sun)

Hello everyone,

The GLTP (Global Leadership Training Program) is a program to learn about leadership with friends from around the world.

In this post, we will introduce one participant’s impressions of his second class and his motivation for participating.

 ~~~
  Good days! I’m Kanata Takami. It is a pleasure to become a member of GLTP and even write a report like this! I would like to express my gratitude toward the support team. I am a Tobitate 4th student (high school course) ,
And I went to the US to have training of track and field.
(Actually, I was a runner J)
    I am a 1st year student of Kobe university, and my major is global culture.
When I was in the US, I noticed the difference of thought between American and Japanese. For instance, when you (or your teacher, boss, anyone is OK)
Japanese point out some mistakes of other people, you may say “No, you should change here…” like this. On the other hand, American say “Yes, good. But, you can make this better if you change here…” like this. It is a interesting difference,
don’t you think? Now I think “cultures” affect their way of thinking.
  I applied for this program because I want to know how to have a influence on other people’s lives. I am eager to establish a program which encourage students to study abroad, and exchange opinion with foreign people. Therefore, it is so important for me to study how to lead people.
  In addition, I want to make a network with great leaders and be inspired with them. As I have said, I am a student, so it will bring me a lot of benefit to interact with passionate leaders.
    Through this session, we learned personal characteristics of an effective leader. We especially payed attention to motivation, communication skills, and emotional intelligence. As a leader, first of all, you should eliminate demotivating things. After that, you will boost motivation of employee or team member.
     In addition, as a leader, we are required to listen to others actively and empathically. Good leaders are good listener and try to understand others’ feeling.
  EI, emotional intelligence, is absolutely important for us. With this ability, we can manage our own emotions, and understand those who are around you. When you listen to opinions of your employees or members, try to put yourself in their situation. Mind you, you should have “empathy,” not “sympathy.”
    I was so excited with this session!  I’m looking forward to the next session, I want to have more discussion and activities next week. Thank you all of you, and stay healthy!
Kanata Takami
Thankyou,Kanata.
There are many students in this program who have this sense of purpose.
