Module.3:Get “The Right Stuff"(6/6 Sat)

Hello everyone,
The GLTP (Global Leadership Training Program) is a program to learn about leadership with friends from around the world.
In this post, we will introduce the participants’ impressions of the 3rd class.

~~~
Hello. My name is Kaho Deshimaru. I am a Tobitate 3rd program member and a first-year student at Tokyo Medical and Dental University. I went to the United States for two weeks in 2017. My aim is to become a doctor who can contribute to the world. Therefore, I’m delighted to be able to join this program.
Today’s subject was “Get the right stuff.” Mainly, we talked about the vision. We need a vision to succeed because if we don’t have a clear vision, we cannot come up with effective ideas. Also, vision is the underpinning of leadership because if we show a persuasive vision, other people will follow.
First, we shared three things in the breakout session. Those are ‘why’, ‘what’, and ‘how’ we do. ‘Why’ is the reason we want to become an effective leader. ‘What’ is our vision. ‘How’ is our mission. Leaders have to have those three factors in order to keep being motivated and continue our leadership. By sharing our three factors, I realized that everyone in this program is very passionate and wanted to become a change maker. For example, one member wanted to change the doctors’ working environment. Another member wanted to eliminate the stereotypes about women.
I’m sure those changes can make the world better. However, we cannot do them alone. We need comrades. How can we gather followers? In order to figure this out, we did the case study about Scott Harrison. He started a charity which gives people in developing countries clean water. He made this charity big by telling a persuasive story about his vision. What I learned from this case study is that connecting our experience to our vision is effective when it comes to making a compelling story and gathering followers.
The homework for next class is to make a video about our story. I’m excited to know all the visions of GLTP members. The next class, by using this video, we will learn about “creating winning ideas.”
I want to realize my dream by using all skills which I am going to acquire through this program. Taking this program, I became confident that I can succeed to become a competent doctor who can make the world better. I want to thank all the people who facilitate this program.
Thank you
Kaho Deshimaru
